- Staves have been bent with the help of a heated form and assembled mostly without a mold.
- The top has been joined and braced. Veneer strips similar to those shown have been inlaid around the edges of the soundholes on the other side.
- The cheeks of the pegbox are shown drilled and cut to rough outline.
- The neck has been tapered, mostly with a block plane. The wide mortise-and-tenon joint is my own idea and not traditional.
- In place of the planned parchment rosettes are a set laser-cut for me from thin fiber board by famous luthier and erstwhile oud maker Michael Gurian. Michael recommended this material as more suitable, noting that oud makers have often used diverse and sometimes synthetic materials for their rosettes. The design was inspired by a drawing Michael made of a Manol oud that was once in his hands.
